In the mornings of the 4th MFPL Career Day on October 16thand 17th, workshops with a specific focus on career development held by professional trainers gave our participants the best possible preparation for job interviews and assessment center settings. The afternoon session on October 16th took place at Hotel Lindner am Belvedere. We were joined by 11 invited guest speakers – many of them MFPL alumni - who initially pursued their studies in science and then took on very diverse career paths. Biotech companies, science illustration, science journalism and funding bodies, to name a few, were represented.
Close to 100 participants seized the brilliant opportunity to discuss different career options during an afternoon “speed dating” session in a relaxed setting at the hotel. The discussions in small groups, facilitated by the comfortable atmosphere far away from the usual strict classroom setting, allowed the participants to talk about their individual interests. An ensuing networking session with drinks and finger food gave the speakers and participants the chance to mix and mingle - rumour has it that many business cards were exchanged and LinkedIn profiles connected.
