Full Professorship in Molecular Mechanisms of Disease

The Max Perutz Labs - one of Europe’s leading institutes for basic research in the life sciences - invite applications for a Full Professorship in Molecular Mechanisms of Disease. We are seeking outstanding candidates to advance our mission of analyzing and reconstituting complex biological systems across scales, with a strong focus on their relevance to human disease.

Open since Jul 02, 2025

About the position

We are particularly interested in, but not limited to, research focused on diseases associated with metabolic disorders, dysregulated cellular stress responses and quality control mechanisms, aberrant epigenetic regulation, RNA biology and chromosome organization, as well as host-pathogen interactions and immune dysfunction. Candidates should demonstrate an exceptional and internationally recognized track record in the mechanistic analysis of disease, and a research direction that is both original and innovative.

We welcome approaches that connect fundamental biological questions with cutting-edge technologies, such as organoids, in vitro disease models, and multiscale analysis platforms integrating experiment and (AI/ML-powered) computational modeling to uncover causality at the molecular level and system-level dysfunction. The successful candidate will join a vibrant, collaborative, and interdisciplinary environment that fosters scientific excellence and innovation.

Together with IMP, GMI, AITHYRA, UBB and IMBA, the Perutz is part of the Vienna BioCenter - a dynamic and interconnected life science campus that is one of Europe’s premier research hubs, home to over 2,000 scientists from 80+ nations and more than 30 biotech companies. The Vienna BioCenter fosters a highly collaborative environment, providing ample opportunities for interdisciplinary research. As a joint venture of the University of Vienna and the Medical University of Vienna, the Perutz facilitates cooperation with a wide range of faculties in the medical sciences and clinic, as well as physics, mathematics and computational sciences, broadening the scope of your research.
